An 80-year-old woman is in hospital following a crash in a Devon village

It happened in Willand yesterday afternoon (15 April) and involved a blue Mitsubishi Space Star and a white Mercedes SUV.

The elderly woman sustained serious injuries - the family in the other vehicle were uninjured.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"Shortly after 1520hrs on Thursday 15th April 2021, emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on Silver Street in Willand. The collision involved a blue Mitsubishi Space Star and a white Mercedes SUV.

"The driver of the Mitsubishi, an 80-year-old local woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment. The driver and passengers in the Mercedes, a mother and two children, were thankfully uninjured.

"Due to the circumstances, police required a full examination of the scene and consequently the road was closed for a number of hours while this was undertaken, and recovery of the vehicles took place."

Any witnesses, or anyone who has information, is asked to call 101 and quote log 517 of the 15th April 2021.
