Woman charged with attempted murder following incident in Torquay

A woman has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Torquay.

Police were called to reports of a child having been seriously injured on Friday 17 December, after an incident at a home in the Shiphay area.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A child sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Torbay District Hospital for treatment.

"The child remains in hospital following surgery to continue with treatment and is expected to make a full recovery."

Police have today (Sunday 19th December) charged a woman in connection to this incident.

Emma Thompson, aged 47 from Bench Tor Close, Torquay, has been charged with attempted murder.

Thompson has also been charged with actual bodily harm in relation to a second assault on a separate child on the same date.

She remains in police custody and is due before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday 20 December.
