Devon's Citizen's Advice are warning some firms may try to make out they're greener than they are this Christmas.

David Bray, from the Plymouth CAB branch, says after COP 26 they're worried some firms could pretend they're greener than they are to boost sales - and consumers should research claims,

A spokesperson said: "It’s National Consumer Week 2021 and Citizens Advice Plymouth is helping consumers get a fair deal and avoid some of the pitfalls that are common in advertising.

"As consumers, we should take steps to be more environmentally friendly such as making our homes more energy efficient. It will save money in the long run and help us meet the UK climate change target.

"Advertising is full of glossy adverts from companies claiming to be environmentally friendly or sustainable. Therefore, we all must feel confident when buying products or services, especially if it means a big investment in new equipment.

"That’s why we want to encourage people to “be wise to being green” but also advise how people can protect themselves from misleading energy efficiency and environmental claims, such as “green scams” and rogue traders. With our advice and support consumers can arm themselves with the knowledge and confidence they need to make the best decisions."
