Royal Navy bomb experts have blown up a Sea Wolf rocket out at sea off Brixham Harbour.

The item was brought in on a fishing trawler on Monday (17 May).

The controlled explosion took place 14 metres below the sea's surface and made a 'pop' as explosives rigged to the side of it went off.

Teams from Plymouth were called to Brixham on Monday morning and were accompanied by police officers and the coastguard rescue team, shortly after 9am.

Fishermen had brought the unexploded device to the shore, near to the Brixham Yacht Club.

The Maritime Coastguard Agency said: "At just after 9am today, Berry Head Coastguard Rescue Team, Devon and Cornwall Police and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were sent to a suspected ordnance that was brought ashore by a fisherman at Brixham.

"The EOD team carried out a controlled detonation."
