Man hit by tyre near Newton Abbot

Devon and Cornwall Police say a local man in his 70s has died as a result of the injuries sustained.

A man has died after being struck by a tyre on the A38 near Newton Abbot this morning.

Police were called to the A38 between the Drumbridges Roundabout and Chudleigh Knighton junction at around 10.30am with a report that a dog walker had been struck by a tyre which appeared to have originated from a passing vehicle.

A local man in his 70s was pronounced deceased shortly afterwards. His next-of-kin has been informed.

The vehicle has been traced and enquiries are being made with the driver.

A road closure on the Eastbound carriageway was implemented for several hours, re-opening at 4.50pm.
