Two arrested as roads remain closed in centre of Torquay

It comes as police are also investigating a separate incident in Topsham

A man's been taken to hospital and two people arrested after an incident in the early hours of this morning in Torquay.

A large police cordon was put in place around the Castle Circus area, after a man - aged in his 30s - was injured.

Roads in the area also remain closed as investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the police said: "A man aged in his 30s sustained lacerations to his back and head and has been taken to hospital. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

"Members of the public can expect to see a large police presence in the area while enquiries continue. We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time. Lymington Road junction with Castle Circus remains closed until further notice. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via our website here or by calling 101 quoting log 23 of 9 January 2024."

It comes as investigations continue in Topsham, after a man was stabbed in the arm.

A 16 year old has been released on bail as investigations continue.

The force spokesperson added: "The incident happened between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Friday 5 January on Majorfield Road.

Officers were notified that the victim, a man in his 30s, had gone to meet an individual who was selling a computer.

Having left his vehicle, the victim walked up Majorfield Road when he was approached from behind and stabbed in the arm and hand causing serious injury.

The victim fled the scene and attended the RD&E Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Following immediate enquiries, detectives have arrested a 16-year-old male from Exeter on suspicion of GBH with intent. He has been released on police bail until 5th April 2024 pending further enquiries."

Detective Inspector Michelle Westlake said: “The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area. This incident, while rare, will understandably cause concern in the community.

“Neighbourhood officers have been conducting house-to-house enquiries and have been speaking to concerned members of the public.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Majorfield Road, Fore Street or Holman Way around the time of the incident. We are specifically interested in speaking to a woman in a long coat as a potential witness who was seen in the area.

“Anyone who has information including CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact police quoting 50240004032.”
