Totnes Castle being wrapped in a 150-foot Pride flag this weekend
It's part of the four-day Totnes Pride event, which begins today
Totnes Castle will be wrapped in a 150-foot Pride flag this weekend, as a 40-event programme begins today celebrating this year's Totnes Pride.
On Saturday there will be 25 local flag bearers invited to help with the banner, between 10am and midday.
A spokesperson for the four-day event said: “Capture the Castle is the image that will define this year’s festival, but what we’ve built around it is a genuinely ambitious arts and culture programme — over 40 events."
Caroline Voaden, MP for South Devon, has welcomed Totnes’ new look Pride festival, sharing “I’m so proud of the scale, diversity and quality of the Pride festival Totnes has produced, which as well as sending a clear message of equality and inclusion will also boost our local economy and growing profile as a centre for progressive arts and culture. I will be there and look forward to supporting and celebrating with Totnes’s LGBTQ+ community and their many allies.”
The festival spokesperson added "We've worked hard to create a four-day programme that reflects what makes this town special: its community, in all of its colourful and eclectic glory.
Its love for revelling in live music and dancing. Its deep connection to the land and the River Dart. Its platforming of local artists and wordsmiths. But above all, it’s a place that welcomes people, from all walks of life and gives them a soft place to land. This Totnes Pride we invite all of you, locals and visitors alike, to celebrate this town and the queer people who help make it what it is.”
