Voters take to polls in Tiverton and Honiton by-election
Another by-election is also taking place in Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Voters in Tiverton and Honiton take to the polls today (Thursday 23 June) to vote in the local by-election.
Polling stations are open from 7.00am to 10.00pm, with results expected between 4.00am and 6.00am tomorrow (Friday 24 June).
It is one of two by-elections taking place today, the other is in Wakefield in West Yorkshire.
The Tiverton and Honiton seat has been held by the Tories since its creation in 1997.
Who are the candidates?
There are eight candidates in total who are looking to take the seat in Tiverton and Honiton. They are:
Jordan Donoghue-Morgan – Heritage Party
Jordan candidate for the Heritage Party. He is local to the area and works in the hospitality industry.
Andy Foan - Reform UK
Andy Foan is the candidate for Reform UK. He was born near Tiverton, serving in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force before becoming a pilot and flying instructor.
Richard Foord – Liberal Democrats
Richard Foord is the candidate for the Liberal Democrats. He lives in Uffculme with his wife and family. Foord served in the army for a decade, reaching the rank of major. He works for a university and volunteers with scout groups.
Helen Hurford – Conservative
Helen Hurford is the candidate for the Conservative Party. Hurford was born and raised in the area, where she also raised her children. She is a former head teacher and is currently the vice chair of Honiton Town Council and deputy mayor of the town.
Liz Pole – Labour
Liz Pole is the candidate for Labour. She lives in the Honiton area with her husband and two children. Pole is a school governor and is on the management committee of the Honiton community Use Building.
Frankie Rufolo – The For Britain Movement
Frankie Rufolo is the candidate for the For Britain Movement. He is from Exeter and says he has travelled all over the South West, working for different charities.
Ben Walker – UK Independence Party
Ben Walker is the candidate for the UK Independence Party. He is from the South West and lives with his partner and two younger daughters. Walker is a serving parish councillor and Royal Navy veteran.
Gill Westcott – Green Party
Gill Westcott is the candidate for the Green Party. She lives near Crediton with her husband. Westcott works as a teacher and researcher.
