During the pandemic The Kingsway Meadow Centre has been helping to feed those who are struggling and is also known for its wider community work

Town councillors Andrew Henderson, David Cox and Mayor Peter Willams helped quickly paint over the graffiti to prevent others following suit.

Cllr Cox said the town was 'declaring war on vandals', adding: "The town council will also seek 'civil recovery' from vandals, though the civil courts even if the police choice not to prosecute. "

He says the money will be paid 'to anyone who provides information to identify and prosecution of vandals'.

The councillors arrived with paint and brushes, within hours of a local resident reported the damage to Cllr Cox at the Meadow Centre.

A graffiti tag was removed from the Kingsway Bus Shelter by the councillors and washed by KRA Youth Worker Karen Ryding.

Cllr Henderson said: "It is important to get rid of graffiti as quickly as possible to stop it spreading - the Kingsway Meadow Centre is really important to the local community, I'm very sad that someone has done this."

Kingsway residents' Association trustee, Cate Williams said: "We're very grateful for the quick action of the councillors, I'm sure the other trustees would join me in thanking our councillors and Mayor acting quickly."

Cllr Cox added "We had to mask-up and 'socially distance'.

"It's very sad that someone did this, we are determined to keep Teignmouth as free of graffiti as possible."
