A teenage girl from Okehampton has died following a serious crash on the A388 at Stoke Climsland.

It happened shortly before 3.41pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday 27 April) involving a white Ford Transit flatbed truck and a white Vauxhall Corsa.

The 17-year-old driver of the Corsa suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and her 16-year-old passenger is in hospital with serious life changing injuries.

A 44-year-old man from Plymouth, who was driving the Ford Transit, suffered minor injuries. Police say he was later arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He's been released on police bail to return on Monday 12 June.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Local officers as well as officers from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene and completed a forensic examination.

"Once completed the road was re-opened as soon as possible. Officers would like to thank the public for their patience during this time.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information, in particular dash cam footage around the time of the collision, is asked to contact Devon & Cornwall Police on 101 and quoting log reference number 568 27th April 2023."
