Sustainable transport initiative: New e-bikes launch in Plymouth
From today, there will be 28 docking stations with bikes ready to ride
People of Plymouth are being offered a chance to try out new Beryl e-bikes or an e-car, as Connect Plymouth launch a new initiative today (Tuesday 21 March).
Connect Plymouth is the city’s new sustainable transport initiative which aims to offer greener and more sustainable ways to travel around the city.
When they are fully operational, Beryl Bikes will have a 500-strong fleet of electric bikes for hire from over 90 sites across the city.
Plymouth City Council say there will be an additional 300 parking bays with electric vehicle charge points provided by Wenea.
Docking stations and charging points have been popping up over the last few months, with the latest appearing at Frankfort Gate and on North Hill.
Outside the city centre there are now docking stations at Plymouth Life Centre, Manadon Sports Centre and Plymouth Marjon University.
From today, there will be 28 docking stations with bikes ready to ride, and more will come online throughout the rest of the year.
The council say the project is part of their commitment to reducing carbon emissions and to greener travel as part of its Climate Emergency Action Plan.
In March 2020 the Council received £51.2m capital funding from the Transforming Cities Fund. This builds upon the £7.6m previously awarded in 2019.
