Suspicious house fire in Torquay being treated as arson

The property suffered "significant" damage

Police investigating a house fire in Torquay which is being treated as arson are appealing for information.

The suspicious blaze is believed to have been started outside the property in Coburg Place between 11.30pm on Friday 18 March and 12.30am on Saturday 19 March.

The fire was tackled by the fire service. The occupants of the home were out at the time.

The targeted address suffered significant damage to the front of the premises and property immediately outside.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, but a number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in connection with the incident to come forward.

Detective Constable Tim Platt said: "This fire had catastrophic potential to cause loss of life and it is fortunate that no-one was seriously injured or killed."
