Police are at Exmouth Marina after a suspected unexploded ordnance was dredged out of the water earlier today.

An 100m cordon has been set up around the area and properties nearby are being evacuated for safety.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been contacted to assess the item.

Devon and Cornwall Police say displaced individuals can go to Exmouth Sports Centre, which is open as a temporary refuge.

The force added that they will provide updates as more information becomes available.

It follows a separate incident earlier today (January 14) on Martin Street in Plymouth where a suspected ordnance was found at a building site.

A cordon is still in place there and according to reports Millbay Academy in Plymouth had to be evacuated just before midday as a result of the incident.
