Water supply restored after 1000s impacted in Plymouth on Easter Monday
The incident impacted customers in the PL6, PL19 and PL20 areas
The supply of water has been restored after a chaotic Easter Monday for many in parts of Plymouth yesterday.
The incident impacted customers in the PL6, PL19 and PL20 areas, with teams said to be 'working extremely hard throughout the day' to get it sorted as quickly as possible.
Water collection points were set up in a number of places amid the loss of water - including at George Park and Ride, Bere Alston Bowling Club and Knightstone Tearooms.
It's understood people will be offered a level of compensation for the disruption - in all, around 13,00 homes were impacted.
CEO of South West Water, Susan Davy, said: "I am really grateful for how patient our customers have been whilst my teams have been working hard to get the fix in place as quickly as possible.
"I also want to thank all our volunteers who have been out delivering to our most vulnerable customers throughout and who have been on hand to support our customers at the bottled water stations."
Yesterday, bosses at South West Water said on Facebook: "We are aware that some customers in PL6, PL19 and PL20 may be experiencing lower water pressure than usual or a loss of supply.
"Our team have been working hard overnight to resolve this issue, however the works needed are more complex than originally anticipated.
"Our team on site will continue working until this is resolved.
"We are very sorry for the disruption caused and would like to thank you for your patience.
"We have set up two Water Collection points for customers experiencing interruptions to their supplies. These are located at George Park and Ride, Tavistock Road, PL6 7HB (what3words = noises.goats.match) and Bere Alston Bowling Club, Bedford Street, Bere Alston, PL20 7DZ (what3words = sifts.dreamer.inflation). Water will be available for collection throughout the day, between 08:30 – 22:00.
"We will also be delivering bottled water to all customers on our Priority Services Register."
