Sporting community in Devon and Plymouth pay tribute to HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Sporting communities across Devon and Plymouth are paying tribute after Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, died aged 96.

Messages have been pouring in on social media from teams across our local area, since Her Majesty passed away at Balmoral on Thursday (8th September).

Among those sharing tributes is Exeter City FC who have taken to Twitter. The Grecians say "the thoughts of all at Exeter City are with The Royal Family at this time".

Local club Plymouth Argyle say: "Plymouth Argyle FC joins with the rest of the United Kingdom in expressing our deep sorrow at the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

"We send our sincere condolences and best wishes to the Royal Family."

Rugby club Exeter Chiefs, also shared the original tweet from The Royal Family, and say they are "deeply saddened" to learn of the passing of Her Majesty.

Basketball team Plymouth City Patriots shared an image of Her Majesty, writing: "The British Basketball community is united in mourning at the passing of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II."

Devon's Tiverton Town have paid tribute, saying: "Tiverton Town FC are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

"A truly remarkable individual who dedicated her life to the country."

Plymouth Parkway wrote on Twitter: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"God Save The Queen."

Mid-Devon football club Elmore AFC who are in the South West Peninsula League have taken to social media simply saying: "RIP Her Majesty."

Rugby union club Plymouth Albion Rugby Football Club took to Twitter, saying: "Everybody at Plymouth Albion is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Our thoughts are with the Royal Family and everyone mourning the loss of Her Majesty at this difficult time."

Buckland Athletic, who play in the Toolstation Western League and Devon League South & West, wrote: "From all at Buckland Athletic FC, thank you Ma'am for your irreplaceable service to our country.

"God save the Queen."

Willand Rovers FC, members of the Southern League, took to Twitter saying: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"The thoughts of everyone at Willand Rovers are with her Family at this time."
