Collections cut down due to driver shortage

South Hams District Council suspended all garden waste collections yesterday, due to the current HGV driver shortage. Waste contractor FCC Environment asked for the suspension as the shortage of drivers was impacting on their ability to undertake waste collections.

Nationally, there is a need for LGV and HGV drivers due to the effects of Covid, Brexit and other factors.

With the council suspending the garden waste collections, FCC Environment will now concentrate on general waste and recycling collections. The suspension will remain in place for a minimum of four weeks.
