An arson investigation is underway after a fire at a derelict hotel in Torquay.

Nearby roads were closed first thing this morning as a result of the smoke over the A379.

Fire crews from Torquay and Paignton were called to Barrington Road, in the early hours of this morning

A spokesperson for the police said: "The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to have been set deliberately.

"A road closure was put in place but this has since been lifted by police.

"Anyone with information which may assist enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 50240288279."
