Police launch investigation following two deaths in Devon and Hampshire
A woman and a man, believed to be known to each other, were both found dead at separate addresses
Detectives are carrying out enquiries after the deaths of a woman in Torquay and a man in Hampshire.
Emergency services were called to a property on Shirburn Road in Torquay shortly before 4pm on Saturday, 31 January, following concerns raised for the welfare of a woman.
The woman, aged in her 70s, was later found dead inside the address. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Officers in Hampshire also attended a separate property in Hythe, where a man in his 40s was discovered deceased. Police have confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted by Hampshire Police, and an investigation is now underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding both incidents.
Scene guards remain in place at the two locations while officers continue their enquiries.
Police believe the man and woman were known to one another. Their next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “This is a very sad incident and we are supporting the next-of-kin of those who have died. We continue to work with our colleagues from Hampshire Police as we investigate this matter.
“Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened and cordons are in place to allow for a thorough investigation of both addresses.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we encourage anyone to speak with officers if they have any concerns.”
