Plymouth 'will learn lessons' after chopping down trees in Armada Way
An independent review has just published its report

Plymouth City council has pledged to follow a 'comprehensive action plan to improve how it delivers major projects and engages with residents' after cutting down more than 100 trees in Armada Way.
The felling, overnight in March 2023, caused outrage with the council being later taken to court by campaigners who accused it of failing to properly consult.
An injunction, secured by campaigners, caused the trees to remain in place for months afterwards - until a new regeneration plan for the city centre was finally agreed after a new labour-run council took control in the local elections.
Last year three local government experts were announced to conduct an independent learning review into the council decision that led to the felling of 129 trees.
Chief Executive Tracey Lee said: “I want to thank David Williams and the panel for their thorough and thoughtful work.
"We are grateful for the insights the review has provided — even where they are difficult to hear. It’s clear that in some key areas, we came up short of where we needed to be. And for that, we are sorry."
