Plymouth will receive £600,000 to rebuild the city following the summer's riots.

Businesses were closed and transport across the city shut down during disorder in August.

A number of people have been jailed since.

The money, given to the City Council from the government's Community Recovery Fund, will provide targeted support to repair damage from the riots.

Plymouth City Council leader Tudor Evans said "any additional money from the government is always welcome."

"We will ensure every penny is spent wisely for the benefit of everyone in Plymouth," he added.

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport's MP Luke Pollard said the funding is a "huge boost which will mean more help to deliver targeted support to our most-impacted communities."

“Plymouth is so much better than the criminal disorder we saw. To truly defeat that hate we need to tackle the root causes of it as well as protecting and reassuring communities in real pain worrying whether Plymouth is safe for them.

"This funding will help the council motor that work.”
