Pebble Beach in Plymouth fully reopens
Works have been completed in time for the summer holidays
Pebble Beach in Plymouth is now fully reopened to members of the public, following its temporary closure due to safety concerns.
A survey conducted at the end of May, revealed that the natural rocky outcrop, which protrudes from the sea wall, was unstable and potentially dangerous.
Contractors abseiled down from the road, fixing anchor points and netting to the outcrop, and securing it to the retaining wall.
The council had declared that the work would be completed in time for the school holidays, with Pebble Beach being a popular summer destination.
Councillor Chris Penberthy, cabinet Member for Housing, Cooperative Development and Communities, said: "The beach may only be small but we know how popular it is with families, swimmers, stand up paddle boarders, snorkellers… the list goes on!
"I look forward to see people enjoying it over the next six weeks and beyond."
In addition to the work on the rocky outcrop, a grille has also been fitted to the sea cave to prevent further access.
