A person has been taken to hospital after a building caught fire in Paignton.

Emergency services were called to the property at 10:40pm on Tuesday night (24th September).

In a statement Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said:

"During the early stages of the incident, it was made known to the crews that not all persons were accounted for so the Incident Commander escalated the attendance by another 4 fire engines.

"This was a fire involving the roof space of a property, which had spread to the property next door.

"One person was treated on scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital, suffering with smoke inhalation. Gas, electric and water were all isolated to the property."

The fire has been extinguished and the cause of the blaze is now under investigation.
