A man's been arrested on suspicion of murder

A murder inquiry's been launched following the suspicious death of a woman in Plymouth.

Police were called around 7.30pm on Monday 18 March following concern for the welfare of the woman at an address in Rendle Street.

The woman in her 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place.

A man in his 60s from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

A 36-hour extension for his detention was granted by Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 20 March.

Detectives from the Force Major Crime Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation and are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death.

A scene guard is in place at the property while house-to-house enquiries and searches remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Neil Blanchard said: “We are in the early stages of our enquiries but have made one arrest. At this time we believe this to be an isolated incident and the parties known to each other.

“We would ask anyone who may have information about this incident to please get in touch. The public will see an increased presence in the area while we conduct our enquiries over the next day or so.”
