A man's suffered serious injuries in an incident in Newton Abbot, which also saw two men arrested.

Police carried out a stop check on a vehicle in the town centre at around 11.15pm last night (Wednesday 14th May).

Four people, all aged in their 20s, got out of the car.

Two were detained, and two left the scene.

The pair arrested remain in custody, and are being questioned on suspicion of drug offences.

A short time later, officers were called to Bearnes Lane, where a man - thought to be one of the passengers from the vehicle stopped - had suffered multiple injuries.

He remains in hospital, with the circumstances being investigated.

A fourth person was located at their home.

Devon and Cornwall Police have also referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, in connection with what happened.

The force say that's normal procedure for an incident of this kind.

There's also an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information into the incident, to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 992 of 14th May.
