Man rescued by fire crews in Kingsbridge

A fire started in a kitchen at a property in Retreat Close last night

Fire crews saved a man in Kingsbridge last night (24 February).

Teams were called to a property in Retreat Close just before 9.30pm, following reports of alarms sounding and smoke coming from a flat.

Fire appliances from Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Modbury were sent to tackle the blaze.

It involved a pan on the cooker. Crews say although the fire was out, the flat was smoke logged.

The man that was saved by firefighters was left in the care of paramedics.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said:

"One fire appliance from Kingsbridge, one from Salcombe and one from Modbury were sent to a report of alarms sounding and smoke coming from a flat at the above location. Initial calls also indicated that there was a person within the flat who was unable to get out.

"On arrival crews confirmed a fire within one of the flats. One male person was rescued by fire crews and given over to the care of the Ambulance Service.

"The fire involved a pan on the cooker and although the fire was out the flat was smoke logged. To deal with the incident crews used 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and 1 safety jet and also carried out ventilation."
