Police investigate an alleged incident in Honiton

A man in his 30's suspected of verbally abusing someone with transphobic comments in East Devon has been released.

The local from Honiton was arrested following an incident in the High Street on Saturday afternoon.

Officers are urging any witnesses to contact them.

"Police investigating a report of a transphobically-aggravated public order offence in Honiton are appealing for information.

"The incident happened outside of St Paul’s Church, in High Street, at around 2pm on Saturday 28 August.

"It was reported that a man aged in his 20s was verbally abused in the street and it is alleged transphobic comments were made.

"Officers investigating the incident would like to speak with anyone who may have seen or heard anything.

"A man aged in his 30s from the Honiton area was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
