Man charged following police incident in Torquay

A cordon was put in place in the Castle Road area over the weekend

A Torquay man has been charged with being in possession of an imitation firearms with intent to cause fear or violence.

It follows an incident in the town on Friday (20 January).

Officers were called just after 8.00pm to the Castle Road area, following concerns for the welfare of an individual within the property.

Officers attended and a cordon was put in place; at around 3.30pm on Saturday (21 January), officers entered the property and safely detained a man.

Police have since charged Stephen Hibberd, aged 30 from Torquay, in connection to this incident.

Hibberd has been remanded in custody to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 January.
