Man charged with attempted murder after Plymouth attacks

Two women were injured in the alleged incidents near Penrose Street.

A man has been charged with attempted murder following two alleged assaults in Plymouth on Friday 16th January.

Eugene Pope, a 23-year-old from Harwell Street, Plymouth, faces charges of attempted murder, assault by beating, possession of a knife in a public place, and possession of cannabis.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on 19th January.

Police were called at around 9.20am on 16th January to reports of an assault near Hastings Terrace and Penrose Street.

A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital with injuries sustained in the attack. She has since been discharged.

Earlier that morning, another woman, in her 30s, is alleged to have been assaulted in the same area. She sustained minor injuries.

Armed officers attended the scene and a cordon was put in place, which has now been removed.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
