Exeter assault: Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault in Exeter.

The attack happened in an alleyway in the Whipton area last Thursday (6 May).

A man and a woman were seriously injured. The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"Police investigating serious assaults on a man and a woman in an alleyway in the Whipton area of Exeter are appealing for information.

"The victims, aged in their 30s and 20s respectively, were allegedly attacked by two people at around 9.30pm on Thursday 6 May in the Barberry Close area.

"Both were seriously injured. The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

"It is believed all parties involved in the incident are known to each other.

"A 40-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody at this time."
