Large fire in Westward Ho! was started accidentally

It's believed a huge fire last night in Westward Ho! was started accidentally.

Six fire engines were called to the scene at a property on Atlantic Way, just after 10pm.

Crews remain on scene this morning damping down and making the area safe.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire and rescue said: "Fire control received several calls from members of the public stating a property was on fire just off Atlantic way, Westward Ho.

Upon arrival, property was found to be well alight and attending crews requested the attendance of further appliances bringing the total to 6 fire appliances and various support vehicles and officers.

"4 breathing apparatus and 2 hosereel jets plus covering jets were used to extinguish the fire. The building was severely damaged by fire. Cause of fire is believed to be accidental. 2 Crews remain on scene and are currently damping down hotspots and making area safe."
