People in North Devon are being given the chance to see a flock of jewelled birds which have arrived at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon.

Their sparkling trail can be seen nestled among the collections until Christmas Eve.

They've been designed by artist Athena Jane, whose work explores traces of memory and myth, natural history collections and variation in nature has created over 300 magical jewelled bird sculptures.

Alongside the exhibition, Athena Jane will be hosting two fun, creative, bird-themed workshops:

Wednesday 26 October 10am – 3pm: Family fun drop-in workshop with bird-themed activities. Participants will make a bird decoration or a tiny mini habitat box. This workshop is free.

Wednesday 7 December 10am-12.30pm and 1.30-4pm: Intensive 3D bird workshop for adults and young people aged over 12. (under 14’s to be accompanied by an adult). Participants will learn how Athena Jane makes her birds and make their own.

Museum Manager, Alison Mills says: "We are so pleased to be hosting this beautiful collection of jewelled birds at the museum.

"Each of the birds is both unique and yet part of a collection that reminds us of the treasury of beauty in natural history, and of birds as a treasure of the natural world. We are lucky enough to be hosting the birds until Christmas Eve, so make sure you come down and see them while you can."
