Steve Brown, public health director designate, said: "The majority of them will be care home residents.

"With care homes we introduced a testing regime so every week staff are tested whether they have symptoms or not.

"Every month, so every 28 days, all residents in care homes are also tested whether they have symptoms or not.

That picks up positive cases so in some respects it's a good news story for the testing regime.

"if the older group are not or have no symptoms - are asymptomatic - that's another good thing as well because that generally means they're not going to be unwell.

"Illness is going to be low and hopefully not going to see such a big number of mortality or deaths so that accounts for the vast majority of the over 90s as you can imagine."
