Once finished it will boast a new community kitchen, library and meeting space.

It's hoped there'll be a virtual event in December to celebrate the opening of the bus, with details expected nearer the time.

Katie Cavanna is from the charity RE4orm, which is just about to start converting it.

She said: "I'm so excited about this. Inside, on the bus, we will have on the bottom floor a working kitchen which will be used by local chefs who supported families across Torbay since Covid.

"They will make food on a healthy budget. Then you go upstairs and that's even more exciting because we'll have a meeting area, a library area and a sensory area and a place for people to meet and come together and get the support they deserve.

"We started RE4orm nearly a year ago to the day. We wanted to bring people together as a community and work together to alleviate poverty and raise aspirations.

"When we first started, the data showed us there were nearly 6,000 children in Torbay living in poverty.

"We know because of Covid that number will have increased and we have delivered 25,000 meals for families across Torbay since March who've been affected by Covid.

"So now, more than ever, there's a need to make support accessible and inclusive for all so people can get themselves out of poverty."
