Historic replica sailing ship coming to Plymouth
The Nao Victoria is being moored at Cattewater Harbour.
A full-scale replica of the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world is heading to Plymouth until Sunday.
The original Nao Victoria, commanded by Juan Sebastian Elcano, left Seville in 1519 and returned to the same city in 1522, after circumnavigating the globe for the first time in history.
The vessel was due to arrive on Wednesday but it's now been delayed due to weaher conditions en route.
The replica was built for the EXPO, the World’s Fair that was held in 1992 in Seville, capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the original nao’s port of origin.
The Nao Victoria is the only replica of the original ship that managed to circumnavigate the world. Measuring 26 meters in length with four decks and 290 square meters of sail, the ship serves as a floating museum, educating the public about the Age of Exploration and the challenges of early sea voyages.
