Police investigating the death of a man in a village near Exeter have been granted a warrant of further detention to detain the suspect in custody. Granted by Exeter Magistrates’ Court, it allows police to keep a suspect for a further 36 hours.

The granting of the warrant follows the death of a 64 year-old man at a house in Brampford Speke on Wednesday. The man's next of kin have been informed.

A 36 year-old man, from London, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Guy Biggar, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Enquiries into this death are continuing and we would like to hear from anyone who has any information that could aid our investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“This is being treated as an isolated matter and we are not seeking anyone else in connection to this incident.

“A police cordon is expected to remain in place at the scene and members of the public will see a heightened police presence in the area.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
