Plymouth Argyle have signed Michael Baidoo for a record transfer fee.

The Ghanian International has signed a long-term contract until 2028 and joins the Pilgrims from Swedish side IF Elsborg.

Baidoo's transfer sees Argyle beat the fee paid for Morgan Whittaker and Bali Mumba in the summer of 2023.

Primarily a midfielder, he was prominent in IF Elsborg's Europa League campaign this season. He scored five goals and assisted three times in that competition, as well as scoring 10 goals and claiming four assists in the Allsvenskan (Swedish Football League) this season. Baidoo also scored the only goal of the game in Elfsborg’s 1-0 win against AS Roma in October.

The Pilgrim's Head of Recruitment Jimmy Dickinson has tracked Baidoo for over a year.

Dickinson said: “Michael is someone we have been aware of for a long time, and I am delighted that we have finally been able to bring him to Argyle.

“He comes to the club with excellent pedigree having been the star of Elfsborg’s Europa League campaign this season and recently made his international debut for Ghana.

“He can play a variety of positions so will add real versatility to the squad, but most of all chose to come to Argyle ahead of other top clubs throughout Europe.

“He is excited to play in England and show what he can do, and we believe he will make a real impact on English football.

“I want to thank Simon and the board for helping us bring him to Argyle in a record deal and look forward to seeing him on the pitch very soon.”

Baidoo will wear the number 30 shirt and, subject to EFL approval and International clearance, will first be available to take part in their match against Brentford on 11 January.
