Fire crews have been dealing with a large fire on the Starcross ferry.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue say they received multiple calls from members of the public at 12:30pm on Wednesday 27th November about a boat on fire near the Starcross to Exmouth ferry pier at Starcross.

Crews from Salcombe, Exmouth and Middlemoor fire stations were sent to the scene, and found a diesel boat, which has been confirmed as being the Princess Marina, well alight and drifting as it had broken away from its moorings.

We spoke to eyewitness Nick Coombs, who's secretary of the Exe Sailing Club - he told us, "It was ablaze and it was very very bright. Obviously there was a lot of action from blue lights as far as we could see."

Crews were initially able to begin tackling the fire using a local tugboat that had firefighting equipment before switching to use of the Exmouth lifeboat to fully extinguish the fire.

The vessel has now been towed to a nearby harbour.
