Fire crews are currently tackling a blaze in Knowle.

It has broken out in a commercial building near Braunton. Teams from several different places have been called to the scene.

The road was closed for a short period this morning, but has since reopened. People are being told to expect delays in the area.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire said:

"One fire engine from Braunton and a fire engine and water bowser from Barnstaple, were sent to a report of a barn on fire.

"On arrival crews confirmed this was actually a commercial property well alight, so a further fire engine and aerial platform ladder from Barnstaple were also sent.

"Due to the single storey building being fully involved in fire, crews asked for further assistance, so fire engines from Ilfracombe and Bideford and a command support unit from Wiveliscombe were all sent to assist.

"Crews have used hose reel jets and foam jets and are still in attendance. A fire investigation officer is also in attendance.

"Further updates to follow."

It follows a busy weekend for the service, with more than 200 999 calls across Devon on Saturday - which included 15 open fires.

A man also required medical treatment after suffering from smoke inhalation yesterday (25 April), following a garden decking fire in Torquay.

In total one car, one shed and two decking areas were involved in and severely damaged. The cause of fire is still undetermined but it is believed it started accidentally.

More updates on the fire in Knowle to follow.
