Exmouth to get a new police station
It's finally been approved after a long awaited bat survey
Last updated 30th Jul 2024
Devon and Cornwall's PCC is pressing on with 5 million pound plans to build a new police station in Exmouth, after a bat survey got the all clear.
Planners were unable to accept an application earlier this year because the bat survey results had not been submitted.
Experts have now concluded that no bats are roosting there, and the Commissioner’s team will now work with East Devon District Council officers to develop a suitable proposal for the site which can go before the authority’s planning committee.
The new station will have a staffed police enquiry office and will conclude the Commissioner’s project to open or reopen 18 PEOs around Devon and Cornwall.
The Commissioner owns and manages around 130 Devon & Cornwall Police buildings. Her plan to open more community police stations to the public saw 13 reopen before April 2024, a further four will reopen this financial year with Exmouth likely to be the final one in the programme.
