Exmoor Dark Skies Festival kicking off tonight
It celebrates Exmoor National Park’s status as a Dark Sky Reserve
The Exmoor Dark Skies Festival kicks off today.
Running from Friday 17th October to Sunday 2nd November, it celebrates Exmoor National Park’s status as a Dark Sky Reserve, awarded by the International Dark Sky Association in 2011.
This means the site has minimal light pollution, and on a cloudless night, thousands of stars and astronomical sights such as the Milky Way can be seen there with the naked eye.
A number of events and activities will take place at the national park during the festival - among them a sauna under the stars, guided walks with rangers, E-bike night rides and planetarium sessions.

Festival Coordinator Julie Colman, said: “The Dark Skies Festival is one of the most magical times to experience Exmoor. Whether you’re gazing at constellations, joining a night hike, or relaxing with a stargazing supper, there’s a real sense of wonder and connection...
"It's an extraordinary celebration of Exmoor after dark.”
