Exmouth locals save 90,000kg in carbon dioxide emissions thanks to ExeCargo bike
After a successful pilot, Transition Exmouth have launched a Crowdfunder to get a new electric cargo bike for the community
Locals in Exmouth are hoping to hit their Crowdfunding target to get an electric cargo bike for the community.
After a successful pilot earlier this year using 'ExeCargo', Transition Exmouth saved around 90,000kg of carbon dioxide emissions.
They say it can be used for deliveries, transporting sports equipment, doing the school run, or for shopping.
The group's Secretary - Carol Jay - tells us it will help the town move towards a zero-carbon future:
"There are businesses, for instance, that have pledged a couple of hundred pounds to the fund who've told us 'look, we use vehicles, we can't help using vehicles, but the fact that we're now investing in the e-cargo bike means that we're offsetting some of the damage that we're doing and helping to fund a green future for our town'.
"We think it's going to support local businesses in being able to do local deliveries. It's going to help the local community groups - for example, Exmouth Foodbank or Exmouth Friends in Need. Anybody could use it to transport anything that'll fit in it and help the environment at the same time."

In December 2020, Transition Exmouth launched a pilot e-cargo bike delivery project, with £500 funding from a Transition Network Bounce Forward National Lottery grant.
After a bike hire deal from Exmouth Cycles, some money from the Town Council to brand the bike, and help from volunteers - ExeCargo was born in March 2021.
Transition Exmouth say having it for use by local business, groups and individuals enables them to make their collections and deliveries in a more 'eco-friendly' way.
They add that there is long term potential for self-employed delivery riders to use the e-Cargo bike instead of a car.
