Driver suffers potentially life-threatening injuries after serious crash in west Devon

A crash in west Devon that left a man with potentially life-threatening injuries has sparked and appeal for witnesses.

Police say a driver was rushed to hospital after it happened on the A3072 near Highampton, Beaworthy.

The casualty's pick-up truck was the only vehicle involved, shortly after 3am on Saturday.

Officers are still trying to work out the cause of the collision, following an investigation at the scene.

They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Devon & Cornwall Police via 101.

In a statement, the force said: "Shortly after 3am on Saturday 28th May, police received a report of a single vehicle collision on the A3072 near Highampton.

"The collision involved a red Mitsubishi L200 and the male driver was taken to Derriford Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

"Local officers as well as officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended the scene to carry out a forensic investigation.

"Officers are working to establish the cause of this collision and would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.

"Police are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the collision to contact police on 101, quoting log 156 28/5/22".
