South West Water working 'around the clock' to restore Brixham supply

2500 properties are still being ordered to boil water following a waterborne disease outbreak

South West Water are working "around the clock" to restore a safe drinking water supply in a part of south Devon.

In the water company's latest online update, Incident Director David Harris said he knew how "frustrating" the continued boiled water notice is for the 2500 properties affected.

They have been ordered to boil water since 15 May, when the parasite causing causes of the waterborne disease cryptosporidium was first identified.

Mr Harris said teams are working to "rigorously clean, test and install filters" so drinking water can be restored as soon as is safe to do so.

“While good progress is being made, we will only lift the boil water notice when we and public health officials are fully confident it is safe to do so.

"This meticulous process does take time, and I am sorry for that, but public safety must be our first and foremost priority."

Mr Harris confirmed bottled water deliveries will continue across the boil water notice area, with stations remaining opening in Broadsands, Freshwater Quarry and Churston.

A community drop-in centre is also open at Kingswear Village Hall until 4pm on Monday.
