Tributes paid after Devon and Cornwall Police officer loses COVID-19 battle

A Devon and Cornwall Police officer has died after contracting COVID-19.

PC Duncan McIntyre lost his battle with the virus on Monday (20 December).

Tributes have been pouring in ever since, including from the Devon and Cornwall Police Federation.

They say it's 'devastating news', adding that their thoughts are with his family, friends and close colleagues.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "It is with deep regret and sadness that Devon and Cornwall Police has learnt of the sad death of serving Police Constable Duncan McIntyre.

"Duncan had been bravely battling COVID in Derriford hospital, but after receiving critical care for a number of days, his condition sadly deteriorated and he sadly passed away on the evening of the 20th December.

"Duncan leaves behind his mother who the Force is supporting at this difficult time."

Devon and Cornwall Police

PC McIntyre most recently worked with the Sexual Offence and Domestic Abuse Investigation Team based at Torquay.

After transferring from Northumbria Police, Duncan joined Devon and Cornwall Police in 2006 as a patrol officer based in South Devon.

Before joining the police, he was with the Royal Navy.

Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer QPM, said: "Duncan was a well-respected officer whose experience and professionalism will be missed by all who knew him.

"It is always devastating to hear of the death of a member of our policing family and my thoughts are very much with Duncan’s family, friends and close colleagues.

"Everyone at Devon and Cornwall Police sends them our heartfelt condolences at this very sad time."
