A Devon and Cornwall police officer has been convicted of the serious sexual assault of a woman he met on a dating website.

49 year-old PC Stuart Mines was off duty when the rape took place at his home in south Devon in October 2022.

He denied rape and said everything that happened had been consensual.

At Exeter Crown Court he was found guilty by a jury, remanded in custody, and will be sentenced on 19 March.

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said: “We note the jury’s guilty verdict at Exeter Crown Court today.

“Our thoughts remain with the victim in this case and specialist officers continue to support her.

“The conviction of PC Stuart Mines for rape follows a full and thorough investigation by the Force.

“We are as committed as ever to reducing sexual violence and predatory behaviour, and to protecting women and girls from harm.

“We now await sentencing on Wednesday 19 March and will comment further once this has taken place.”
