The Tradesman's Arms in Stokenham - near Kingsbridge - burnt down early this morning, with fire crews from 18 stations battling the flames.

The cause of the fire - which also saw a number of homes being evacuated - is still under investigation.

On social media, the pub's owners confirmed they're now trying to contact all those who'd booked to stay at the venue - which also operated a B&B.

Online people have been sharing their memories of the venue - with some saying they're 'devastated' to see what's happened.

Others also praised the staff and said they're glad no one was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire and rescue said: "The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and has affected the pub and three terraced thatch properties.

"All people have evacuated."

South Ham District Council’s leader Judy Pearce, said: “We are so very sorry to hear about the devastating fire last night in Stokenham that has resulted in the loss of four family homes and a much loved historic community pub.

“Our officers worked through the night to help with any emergency housing needs and will continue to offer support, if needed.

"We continue to work with our emergency services partners to support the community any way we can.”
