Devon's fire service have issued a warning following a "rare" incident over the weekend.

They were called to a blaze at a property in Crediton on Saturday evening (4 June).

It was caused by sunlight refracting in a mirror, setting light to combustible material.

Two flats were damaged in the blaze. The first floor flat was almost completely destroyed.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue say while events like these are rare, the results can be "devastating".

In a post on Twitter, they said: "This photograph shows the damage that can be caused when sunlight is refracted by a mirror and sets light to combustible material such as bedding or clothes.

"This happened in Crediton at the weekend. It's rare but the results can be devastating."
