'Major Incident' is now being scaled back after 'multiple explosions underground' this lunchtime
A major incident was today declared in Kingsbridge after residents reported multiple explosions underground - causing 25 people to be evacuated.

Emergency Services have been on scene in Church Street all day.
Some residents were evacuated as a safety precaution and a reception centre was established to temporarily house families in a Covid-secure environment.
A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire service said: "One Fire Engine from Kingsbridge was initially sent to a report of smoke coming from underneath the pavement and road.
"On arrival crews confirmed there was smoke issuing and it was close to a gas pipe. At this point the Gas Board were requested to attend and with the assistance of the Police, crews began to evacuate nearby properties. The electricity board were also requested to attend.
"Crews requested further assistance, so another Fire Engine from Salcombe and an Environmental Protection Unit from Newton Abbot was sent.
"The cause of the incident was an underground electric cable that was arcing. Crews assisted the Police in evacuating people and stood by as a precaution. "
Earlier in the afternoon Kingsbridge Police said: "At this time we are not aware of any serious injuries but one man has been taken to hospital.
"Roads are closed around the town centre and we ask you to avoid the area unless absolutely necessary."
An update from Devon & Cornwall Police tonight said: “Police were contacted at 11:50am to reports of possible explosions from a suspected gas leak or electrical shortage coming from under the road in Church Street, Kingsbridge.
"Church Street has been closed and around 25 people from properties in the area have been evacuated and temporary shelter is being arranged.
"No injuries have been reported.
"Fire, police and engineers from both gas and electric companies are on the scene.
"The public are being asked to avoid the area.”
