Chair of NHS Devon quits role over concerns of a 'further cut'
Dr Wollaston has praised the 'wonderful' staff, but warned 'elastic already stretched too far'

The chair of NHS Devon has this morning quit the role.
Dr Sarah Wollaston has taken to social media to say she was not able to sign off on what she called 'a further cut'.
The former politician, who took over the role in late 2021, has praised what she calls the 'wonderful NHS, care and voluntary sector teams that are out there doing their very best in challenging circumstances'.
But she has warned: "The state of our infrastructure in too many places is frankly shocking."
Dr Wollaston, who lost her seat of Totnes after switching parties, is a former chair of Parliament's cross-party Commons Health & Social Care Select Committee.
Her social media posts includes that she 'did not feel able to sign off on a further cut; elastic already stretched too far'.
Dr Wollaston, who lives in South Devon, has worked in hospital and primary care settings and returned to clinical practice during the pandemic as a GP and to help with the COVID vaccination programme.
She was awarded an honorary fellowship with the Royal Society of Medicine in recognition of her work in public health and scrutiny of health policy
