A driver had to be rescued on Friday night by the fire service after losing control on the slip way in Kingsteignton - and ending up on its side in someone's garden.

On Saturday night, Newton Abbot Fire Station confirmed the incident involved just one car - and that the driver has now been taken to hospital.

It took two fire engines and a 'heavy rescue vehicle' to recover the driver from Middlemoor - who, according to the fire service, was initially trapped in the BMW.

One of the fire engines deployed came from Torquay fire station.

During the rescue, the driver had to be rescued from the car - with the fire service having to take off the rear door, before finally bringing them out with a stretcher.

The driver is now in hospital, recovering from their injuries.

On Facebook, the service said: "Upon arrival at the incident, the crew discovered that a car had lost control at the slip way approaching Warebarton roundabout. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle slid across the grass verge, went through a fence, and ended up in a domestic garden with the car partially on its side.

"The driver was pinned in the car and as a result of their injuries the decision was made that they would have to be extricated from the car. Whilst the Ambulance service tended to the care of the casualty, the fire crews started to secure the vehicle to ensure any uncontrolled movement would be eliminated. Crews utilised both the V-struts off our appliances, as well as the Stabfast struts off the HRV to achieve this.

"Once the vehicle was stable, crews utlised battery powered spreading equipment in order to remove the rear door. Following this, the 'B post' was cut away to allow as much space as possible.

"Once carried out, the fire crews worked under the direction of the Ambulance service to remove the casualty. They achieved this by utilising a stretcher. Once free from the vehicle, the driver was left in the care of our Ambulance colleagues.

"Everyone at Newton Abbot fire station would like to wish the occupant all the best and a speedy recovery."
